What Are Nightly Notes?

  • They're the opposite of Morning Pages.
  • So they're written at night instead of first thing in the morning.
  • They are typed instead of handwritten,
  • They're public instead of private,
  • They're guided by questions instead of flowing freely
  • A completed entry consists of six questions and six answers instead of three pages
  • Since they are public others are allowed to comment on them
For an interesting variation on daily writing see 100 words.

"To be really great in little things, to be truly noble and heroic in the insipid details of everyday life, is a virtue so rare as to be worthy of canonization."
Harriet Beecher Stowe as quoted by Angeles Arrien in Signs of Life page 63

Tonight's Questions and Answers

Wednesday, September 11, 2002
It is 8:56 pm.

  • who impressed me the most today? it's still early maybe a candidate will come forward
  • what did I do all day? finally went to the YMCA (to cancel my membership!), tried to go to Weight Watchers again :-0 visited momma, went to 9.11 Rememberce event at Water Tower, finally took work from show to IHS, went to do my sister a favor -- back home!
  • when did I leave the house today? noonish
  • where did I go today? too often I confused/combine what did I do and where did I go. Does this mean something? Am I answering my own questions inaccurately? Okay, I see the difference;where did I go? YMCA, WW, Momma's house, Water Tower, IHS, sister's house. Often the what automatically includes the where or it would be like a matching game.
  • why didn't I get more done today? I was out most of the day. But most of the things I did do were things I've been putting off.
  • surprise question? Why didn't I weigh in at Weight Watchers? It's a downtown site and I drove around the block twice couldn't find anywhere to park. I hate parking garages and I hate paying to park but I was willing today to pay but nothing visible was available. So I'm scratching that site from my possibilities. Tomorrow, I have to be out early and I can pass the WW that I first went to years ago. So I'll check the times on-line and weigh in there!
